Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch! (1964)

Out To Lunch! is one of the great staples of avant-garde/free jazz, and there's a reason for it. Eric Dolphy has a momentum on this record and the feeling that everything he touches changes into to gold is very apparent here. 1964 meant the absolute heyday for Eric Dolphy and this is his defining moment. Dolphy is one of the most refreshing among all the great jazz players, and I also see him as a sort of crazy version of Coltrane.

This record is full of memorable moments and the thing is, that normally a free jazz record barely contains structure, this record actually has the melodies ánd the freakouts. So there's something great for everyone in this.
