The Pop Group - Y (1979)

Today I want to celebrate the existence of a wonderful musician named Mark Stewart who, together with his group The Pop Group and solo, made some of the best dub-influenced music ever made. It is obvious that they were listening to a lot of reggae and dub when they made Y, but mixed with a certain dose of experimentalism and post-punk, it takes it to a higher level.

It starts of quite poppy with the funky Beyond Good and Evil, but it moves into a more experimental form very soon, going further and further into the land of Don Van Vliet, guitar explosions and thick basses. Defining this album would make me say that this is a weirder version of Metal Box by Public Image Ltd. Excited?
